At Dhanyam, our Organic Single-Polished Rice is made to retain as much of the grain’s natural goodness as possible. Traditionally, rice was hand-pounded, a gentle process that removed the husk while retaining much of the nutritious outer layers of the grain. Genuine hand-pounding is rarely practised today, especially at a commercial scale. Single polishing is our practical modern-day equivalent—minimal processing that keeps the rice closer to its natural form.

Unlike highly polished white rice, which undergoes repeated polishing to produce a smooth, bright-white grain, our rice is polished only once. This means more of the grain’s natural bran layer, character, flavour and nutrients are retained. The rice may therefore look slightly less white and less uniform than conventional polished rice—and that is precisely the point. Less polishing means less is taken away from the grain.

Our single-polished rice is also organically grown, without synthetic chemical pesticides and fertilisers. From the way the paddy is cultivated to the way the grain is processed, the philosophy is simple: interfere as little as possible with what nature has created. The result is wholesome, naturally flavourful everyday rice that brings the spirit of traditional hand-pounded rice to the modern kitchen.
